Carbon Action Delivers ISO 14067:2018 Greenhouse Gases – Carbon Footprint of Products Standard

This month, Carbon Action have completed delivery of training on the ISO 14067:2018 Greenhouse Gases- Carbon Footprint of Products Standard. This standard details ISO’s requirements for completing a product carbon footprint. The course covered main parts of the ISO 14067 Standard, including:

  • Defining a product carbon footprint’s boundaries, such as:
    • Purpose of carbon footprint
    • Unit for which the carbon footprint will be measured (for example, one automobile, one house, or one carton of milk)
    • Boundaries of the system to be footprinted
    • Assumptions of the footprint and limitations of the footprint
  • Different types of carbon inventory including cradle-to-gate and cradle-to-grave and the lifecycle stages to be included in each
  • Rigorous processes for data gathering and evaluation as well as addressing data gaps
  • Use of raw data and emissions factors
  • Reporting of Product Carbon Footprint data

Besides theory, the course also contained a detailed case study over the course of the four days of the training to put the theoretical matter of the standard into practice for course participants and anchor the learning of the course using concrete data and examples.

Carbon Footprinting is a key enabler for companies working to understand, manage, and decrease their overall carbon impact, including companies performing carbon reporting internally and externally, companies that have set carbon targets, companies wishing to adapt to climate change by transitioning away from climate-intensive materials, and for companies importing into the EU who will need to improve their carbon reporting in order to meet CBAM requirements.
