Comparative Impact Assessment

In a Comparative Impact Assessment (CIA), Carbon Action independently assesses and analyses the sustainability of a new technology or process – compared to the legacy technology or process it might replace. Its goal is to say that the new technology or process not only achieves results as well as before – but also demonstrably lowers emissions and/or creates other sustainability benefits. The CIA approach has proven very effective in helping companies to redefine and articulate their value propositions. This in turn, helps to accelerate growth with the growing number of companies implementing their ESG strategies, in particular helping to reduce insidious Scope 3 emissions. Our experience is that the companies that engage in the approach, tend to expand the scope of the analysis beyond climate-related impacts to other ESG topics, as it helps differentiate their offerings and stimulate demand.

Key benefits of undertaking a CIA:

  • Cost Efficiency: Assessing a technology impact helps identify potential cost savings through energy efficiency and reduced resource consumption.
  • Environmental Responsibility: Opting for sustainable tech demonstrates commitment to environmental stewardship, aligning with corporate social responsibility goals.
  • Carbon Footprint Reduction: Sustainable technology can lead to lower emissions, contributing to a greener and more sustainable supply chain.
  • Positive ROI: Investments in sustainable tech often yield long-term financial benefits, making it a financially sound choice.
  • Competitive Edge: Embracing sustainable solutions can differentiate the organization, attracting eco-conscious customers and partners.
